Condescension or Co-decisions

The Young journal has published a paper i wrote based on fieldwork i did on participatory budgeting in Helsinki back in 2013.  Nice to finally see this text online.

The paper examines youth participation in public decision-making.  It juxtaposes the empirical data with theoretical ideal conditions for participation.  In thge paper i arguethat ideal conditions of participation need to be understood in a wider sense, including how participation is made ‘youth friendly’, the opportunities and possibilities of participants in the core of the process versus those occupying marginal positions, and what kind of prior knowledge is necessary in order to participate.

Access the article through Sage here or the slightly less attractive manuscript here.
